This medal is Julius 3648. It looks like a variant of Bramsen 1789, except for the 1818. That piece, also by Barre, was marred by several errors of fact on the reverse including the marshal's date of birth and death. This one, produced a year later than Br. 1789, has omitted those dates altogether. David Block who helped identify this added that "Barre is later than the engravers who did the Napoleonic medals, and that Massena did not have the title Prince, although the head of the family somehow acquired that title later. It may be that this medal was privately commissioned."
